MASCULINITY: men's magazines, body image & fashion

Hegemonic masculinity is a powerful idea that has been usefully employed for about twenty five years in a wide variety of contexts and has now been subject to much critical review. (Hailey sheridon 2007)

Talking about the typical metrosexual, this is a young man with money to spend, living in or within easy reach of a metropolis because that's where all the best shops, clubs, gyms and hairdressers are. He might be officially gay, straight or bisexual, but this is utterly immaterial because he has clearly taken himself as his own love object and pleasure as his sexual preference. Particular professions, such as modelling, waiting tables, media, pop music and, nowadays, sport, seem to attract them but, truth be told, like male vanity products and herpes, they're pretty much everywhere. (Mark Simpson 2002)

Kanye West is showing some loving’ to his favorite brand: Louis Vuitton.  The self-described Louis Vuitton Don has been the talk of the fashion town, as he often sports metrosexual styles that are out of this world.  But Kanye wants to be more than just a style icon.  He, in fact, doesn’t want to be just another celebrity designer.(Ashlee Vensel 2008).
